"Variations on a Theme" - the light grey blazer

The annual dinner at my workplace is coming up again. Time to think about what to wear.

Quick recap
2009 - black blazer, maroon striped shirt, black pants
2010 - light grey blazer, white shirt, black tie, dark grey pants
2011 - dark grey suit, black shirt, black tie
2012 - ???

Not so keen to buy another new suit, so I think I will start by going back to my light grey blazer.

The easiest way to be different from the 2010 outfit would be to pair the light grey blazer with a blue shirt and white pants. Like the sample photo below.

But a little too "summer" maybe, and perhaps a little too standout.

Next idea, maybe a variation on the 2010 light top, dark bottom theme. A dark blue (navy blue) pants, like below.

Not the red socks though. I'm not that fashion forward. But light grey does go well with dark blue.

So what about the shirt? I could go safe by sticking with a light pastel blue or light pastel pink shirt. One style which I would like to try is a gingham shirt, like the combo below.

I'll skip the orange pocket square and feather, thank you. As for the tie, I prefer the tie to "disappear", so I will most likely stick to a black tie for the 3rd year in a row.

Now to find a photo with all 3 elements, and also to start hunting. :)
